ℹ️ Which Platform Hosts Your PsycINFO Access?

APA PsycInfo is licensed across multiple provider interfaces: APA PsycNet, EBSCOhost, and Ovid. The database content is identical, but the export button and options differ slightly. Follow the matching instructions below for your institution's platform.

Required PsycINFO Export Settings (APA PsycNet)

When exporting from APA PsycNet, configure the format and record content fields to ensure abstracts are included.

APA PsycNet Export Dialog Mimic Recommended Selection
RIS (EndNote, Reference Manager, Zotero) Standard bibliographic tag format
Citation & Abstract (or Complete Record) Preserves title, authors, source, abstract, and Thesaurus terms
⚠️ Avoid "Citation Only": this option strips the abstract text required for screening.

Platform-Specific Export Workflows

1 Exporting via APA PsycNet

  1. Run your search query in APA PsycNet and review the hit count.
  2. Select the records to export: check "Select All" or specify a numerical batch (up to 500 records per file).
  3. Click the "Export" link above the search results table.
  4. In the export dialog, choose "RIS" as the format.
  5. Select "Citation and Abstract" or "Complete Reference".
  6. Click "Continue" to download the `.ris` file.

2 Exporting via EBSCOhost

  1. Execute your search query on the EBSCOhost platform.
  2. Click "Share" and add results to your Folder (up to 50 at a time) or click "Export results" for batch email delivery.
  3. Navigate to the Folder view and select all articles.
  4. Click "Export" on the right-hand column.
  5. Choose "Direct Export in RIS Format" with "Detailed citation and abstract".
  6. Click "Save" to download the file.

3 Exporting via Ovid

  1. Perform your search in Ovid PsycINFO.
  2. Above the results display, click "Export".
  3. Select the range of results (e.g. 1-1000).
  4. Choose "RIS" under the format dropdown.
  5. Select "Complete Reference" (or "Citation, Abstract, Subject Headings").
  6. Click "Export" to receive the `.ris` file.

Troubleshooting PsycINFO Exports

Batch size limit hit: APA PsycNet limits single exports to 500 records. For large searches, export in 500-record increments (`1-500`, `501-1000`, etc.) and upload all batch files into Lumina simultaneously.
Missing peer-review status or DOI: Choose "Complete Reference" in the export dialog to ensure publication types, DOIs, and institutional affiliations are captured in the RIS tags.
