Exporting Search Results from CINAHL
Export citations and complete abstracts from the CINAHL database on EBSCOhost into standard RIS format for systematic review screening.
⚠️ EBSCOhost Export Limits
EBSCOhost interfaces limit folder-based direct downloads to 50 records per page when manually selecting results, or up to 25,000 records via the "Share → Export results" email link feature. For systematic reviews with hundreds or thousands of citations, use the batch export workflow or folder pagination described below.
Required EBSCOhost / CINAHL Export Settings
When saving references from your EBSCO folder, ensure the export manager radio button is configured for RIS format.
Step-by-Step CINAHL Export Workflow
Execute Your CINAHL Search
Perform your literature search using CINAHL Subject Headings (MeSH equivalents) and free-text terms. Review the search history and final combination line.
Add Records to Folder
Click "Share" at the top right of the search results list. Under "Add to folder", choose "Results (1-50)" (or use the page options to show up to 50 results per page). For larger searches, use the "Export results" link in the Share menu to request a complete delivery link.
Open Folder View
Click the "Folder" icon in the top navigation bar. Select the articles checkbox ("Select all") in your folder contents.
Click "Export" and Select RIS
Click "Export" on the right-hand action column. Choose "Direct Export in RIS Format". Ensure that the option includes abstracts.
Save the .ris File
Click "Save". The browser will download a file named `delivery.ris` (or similar). If you exported multiple pages, keep each batch file labeled clearly (e.g., `cinahl_batch_01.ris`, `cinahl_batch_02.ris`).
